.FI is one of the offical country code Top-Level-Domain of Finland. 

Zone Use

  • Foreign associations and entrepreneurs may obtain a FI-domain name by registering a Finnish branch office in the trade register. A foreign trademark which is protected in Finland may also be protected in the Finnish domain name register by registering it in the name of a subsidiary or some other contracting party registered in Finland. Finnish trademark holders that are not entitled to a FI-domain name are comparable to foreign trade mark holders.
  • Person of at least 15 years of age who has a Finnish Personal Identity Number and is domiciled in Finland.
  • IMPORTANT: Each domain name has an authorization key that consists of a series of numbers. FICORA will send the key to the domain name holder's mailing address. By submitting the authorization key, the holder can authorise the registrar to make changes in the domain name.
  • IMPORTANT: Domain names registered through Key-Systems can only be modified if the holder provides the authorization key that has been sent to him. Renewal is possible without this authorization code.

Restrictions 

You will be granted a fi-domain name if you

  • are 15 years of age;
  • have a Finnish personal ID number; and
  • live in a Finnish municipality.

Also, fi-domain names are granted to

  • companies and private entrepreneurs;
  • Finnish public bodies and state enterprises;
  • independent public corporations and public associations; and
  • diplomatic missions of a foreign state

registered with the trade register or the registers of associations or foundations in Finland.

The registration into the trade register or the registers of associations or foundations must be final before you can apply for a domain name. The business identification code alone, or the fact that the holder has merely been entered into the register of the tax administration, does not give the right to apply for a domain name.

In accordance with the Act on Domain Names, a domain name may not contain offensive terms or incitements to commit an offence, and domain names may not be applied for with the purpose of reserving them for resale.

It is not possible to apply for a domain name that is identical to an acronym for a company form (e.g. ltd), the word ‘tavaramerkki’ (trademark) or top-level global or national domains (e.g. com, net, org, fi, or dk).
